An agreement was signed between Georgia and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the extension of the Country Programme Framework (CPF) until 2028.
The agreement was concluded on 24 February of this year in Vienna.

On behalf of Georgia, the agreement was signed by the person authorized under a Government decree, Ms Nino Utiashvili, Head of the Agency of Nuclear and Radiation Safety (ANRS).
On behalf of the IAEA, the agreement was signed by Mr Hua Liu, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation.
“The implementation of the Country Programme Framework ensures the support and continuity of priority areas such as nuclear and radiation safety and security, health and nutrition, food and agriculture, water and the environment, as well as energy and industry. The development of these fields is essential for public welfare and the country’s long-term economic development,” stated Ms Nino Utiashvili.
The Country Programme Framework serves as the main strategic document for cooperation with the Agency. It defines the priority areas of partnership between Georgia and the IAEA and provides the foundation for the implementation of joint projects.
The initial agreement between the parties was signed on 26 November 2020 for the period 2020–2025.
The extension of the programme reflects the strong partnership between Georgia and the IAEA and their shared interest in supporting the sustainable development of nuclear and radiation safety.
